From Fr. Peter's Desk, 20th December, 2017

There have been 364 sleeps since last Christmas and here we are again
enjoying this magical time of year as a community of faith, the family of
God.

Everyone has something to say about Christmas and here are a few quotes I
have picked up over the year:

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.”–
Roy L. Smith.

Harlan Miller says .. “Probably the reason we all go so haywire at
Christmas time with the endless unrestrained and often silly buying of
gifts is that we don’t quite know how to put our love into words.”

But I found Pope Francis words particularly inspiring (incidentally Pope
Francis will be passing through Dublin on his way to Balally in 2018) and
maybe they will inspire you too:

“The power of this Child, Son of God and Son of Mary, is not the power of
this world, based on might and wealth; it is the power of love. It is the
power which created the heavens and the earth, which gives life to all
creation: to minerals, plants and animals; it is the force which attracts
man and woman, and makes them one flesh, one single existence; it is the
power which gives new birth, pardons faults, reconciles enemies, and
transforms evil into good. It is the power of God. (Pope Francis)”

I invite you to sit with these words around the Crib in your house or maybe
read them together as a family in the Christmas gathering. Putting Christ
back in the Crib, in the
heart of Christmas is a wonderful thing. It gives meaning to all our
beautiful traditions, carols and celebrations. It is the Christ–Child that
gives us Joy and Hope.

So a very Blessed and Happy Christmas to all the community, particularly
those who are coming home for Christmas.
