A Word from Father Jim
Another Lent has arrived and with it a lot more normality as the threat of Covid seems to recede. The Parish Pastoral recommends the continued wearing of masks in Church until Easter although this will be a matter of personal decision from Monday on.
Each of us is called to some spiritual discipline in Lent . We begin our Lenten journey on Ash Wednesday with distribution of ashes at 10.00am Mass and a lay led service by the baptism team at 7.00pm. Thursday beginning the 3rd March we will have Monastic Morning Prayer at 9.30am in the Pastoral Centre.
We once again publish our full Lenten programme on the Website and in the Newsletter.
I was delighted with the enthusiasm on our Lenten book “The Book of Saint Brigid” by Colm Keane & Una O’ Hagan. About 100 signed up last weekend. It is not too late to order if you have not already done so. You can contact the Parish Office and if you are housebound it will be delivered to you.
Just as the Abbot in the Monastery blesses and distributes the book to the monks on the 1st Sunday of Lent, so Father Dermot and I will do the same at Masses next weekend 5th 6th March. And speaking of books, have a look at the lovely religious items, books and CD’s on sale at the back of the Church. You will notice some of our own Father Dermot’s books there.
I wish you all a blessed Lent and I look forward to making the journey to Holy week and Easter together. One of the fruits of the course on the Eucharist is the birth of a new Liturgy committee which meets for the first time this week. Pray for their work. With love. Father Jim
