A Word From Father Jim: 3rd February 2022

A word from Father Jim

As mentioned last weekend, we will be Passing the baskets from this weekend starting Friday 4th February for the 2 collections. The first collection ( Common fund) supports the priests of your own Parish and the sick and retired priests of the Diocese. The second collection (share) supports the poorer parishes of the Diocese and other Diocesan services. After the homily the celebrant will read the notices and announce the First collection. The second collection will take place at the presentation of gifts ( Offertory). The machines are also available. Thanks so much for your ongoing support for all our collections and thank you also to our Stewards and collectors.

A sincere word of thanks to sisters Mary, Katherine and Eileen for organising and leading the prayer in honour of St Bridget last Monday after 10am Mass. The sisters are a wonderful and supportive presence in the parish. I’m delighted we have them. I hope to encourage lay leadership in prayer as an important priority.

Last weekend my father would have been 100. Than I discovered it was a weekend of birthdays for some of our active parishioners, Bríd Fitzgerald, Martina Kavanagh, Karen de Veal, Brendan Smith, Brendan McGlynn, and James Murphy and to cap it off my spiritual mentor, Blessed Columba Marmion, the Benedictine Monk who was once a curate in Dundrum , died 99 years ago on Sunday 30th January. Maybe more than a coincidence? Happy Birthday all. With Love Father Jim
