In the Article of 20/4/21 (Catholic Primate calls for pastoral work of priests to be deemed essential) it is mentioned how only funerals and weddings have been permitted since October. This is in stark contrast with the rights that elite sportspeople and good drinkers are afforded in this pandemic.
16 hefty men or women can get very up close and personal in a scrum at a six nations games but 16 family members cannot gather in a Church to baptise a child or celebrate a first communion. Belonging to the ‘elite’ gives you more rights than being ordinary.
You can drop into your local ‘essential’ off licence and stock up on your life giving alcohol but you cannot go into your church and receive safely the life giving bread of the Eucharist.
People of faith have been demeaned and misunderstood during this crisis, their religion is a lot more important to them than any sporting event or bottle of wine but as they are not elite their needs are not considered.
