St. Joseph The Worker Or ( The Quiet Man)
As we know Pope Francis has dedicated this year in honour of St. Joseph. The title of an old classic film, The Quiet Man, somehow stirred in my mind an image of St. Joseph. I always pictured St. Joseph as being a quiet man.
Perhaps this is because not much has been written in the bible concerning his life. He was specially chosen to care for the most precious infant of all time. He was undoubtedly a very loving and caring man with all the qualities for a good father.
St. Joseph would have been a very hard worker. He had to provide for his family just like any other parent. He also had to flee his home in the middle of the night and undertake a long and tiresome journey with no knowledge of where he might find shelter. Like we know, so many refugee’s to this present time, have to flee their home’s seeking shelter in a safe place.
This year he has been dedicated two feast days, one which we celebrated on the 19th March and again on the 1st May. There will be a special Novena from the 1st May – 9th May in his honour.
We might ask his intercession for the very many families who have been struggling throughout the pandemic, and for all those who have lost their jobs as a result.
