The Week That Was @ Balally Parish

The tragedy in Carrickmines became our tragedy as the Connors family wished to have the funeral of their five loved ones in the Church of the Ascension.

The beautiful autumn sun served as a backdrop to the three white and the two oak coffins as they were brought into the Church to be embraced by the grief of the family, the beauty of the liturgy and the solidarity of the community.

The Baptismal team, the Funeral team, the Liturgy team, the Altar society, Maintenance and Hospitality teams, PPC and Pastoral Centre team, the Stewards, musicians and many more volunteers contributed to give as much dignity to an event that was as heartbreaking as has been seen in our parish.

Sandyford Parish made itself present also with food and willing hands.

Everyone was welcomed, made to feel at home and through the solemn reception and requiem Mass was pointed in the direction of hope. All were offered refreshment and friendliness.

Thank you to all involved. While nobody wanted thank-yous, all was done with great generosity. In the depths of this sadness it was all we could do.
