What Does God Want Of Me?
Last Sunday was the beginning of The Synod of Bishops of a two year Programme of a way forward for our Church. A way in which several proposals may be considered to review the way in which we view our Church and the sacraments.
Now I am not a learned person in theology. Perhaps I am very old fashioned in my views. I know it took me a long time to adjust to the changes when the Mass was changed from Latin to English. Admittedly, I was able to take part more fully in the celebration of Mass when it was translated into the English language.
I do know that I always loved the ceremony of Benediction and the singing of of the Latin Hymns. I loved joining in those beautiful hymns, I really felt connected to this lovely ceremony. I was glad that this ceremony has remained the same.
To my mind the way forward is to remember the first commandment which The Lord handed down to Moses
“Love the Lord”
and His own message to us,
“Love thy neighbour as thyself.”
If we but try to follow this way, I don’t think we can go far wrong.
