The activities are an attempt to engage with the intersection of Faith and Culture in some of its myriad intersections. Perhaps opening the door to Faith for those for whom the journey of Faith is at a very embryonic stage. But also to emphasise for everyone the seamless garment of Faith and Culture.
The Activities, often outside or away from the Pastoral Centre, act as a counterpoint to the Contemplative Prayer character of the morning , the Church based beginning of the Desert Days.
The Desert Days seek to echo Jesus’ ‘going into the desert’, to be with the Father and the Spirit; to take time away from the demands of the crowd, be it work, family, engagements, domestic tasks, to do lists etc., to encounter God in prayer from different Catholic traditions … and then later to encounter God in music, song, story, nature, creation, visual arts, jigsaws, fellowship etc…
Contemplative Eucharist
The activities are followed on Desert Day evenings by our Contemplative Eucharist, incorporating Lectio Divina, Taize style contemplative music and Christian Meditation, taking place in our Pastoral Centre.
