Last Saturday a great event took place in the Parish. Fr. Padraig McCarthy
celebrated the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination. It was a very
special occasion, the choir enhanced the 11.00 Mass, the altar society
decorated the church and prepared the altar as Fr. Padraig was joined by
his family, friends and parishioners for this special occasion.
As well as the priests of the Parish, Fr. Padraig was joined by Fr. Teddy
Collins. who, like Fr. Padraig and Fr. Dermot, was ordained 50 years ago.
Fr. Padraig highlighted, in the Mass and in the homily the common baptism,
the one bread and the one cup that unites us all.
After Mass, a wonderful lunch was prepared for all the guests by Sandra,
the Parish pastoral Centre team and the Fáilte team. The centre was full
but there was plenty for everyone and a memorable time was shared. A
special communications sub- committee met with a provider of web streaming
and parish television on Tuesday to explore the possibility of broadcasting
our masses (including funerals, weddings and special occasions) over the
internet.
This would mean that housebound parishioners would be able to participate
in their own community Mass everyday as well as offering to families with
members in Australia, New Zealand the USA (or more exotic places like
Kerry) the opportunity to participate via internet in special events. This
service would also permit an increase in the points of communication
between the Parish and all its members, especially the young. The provider
is going to come back with a proposal of costs.
You will notice that the altar has been moved back a bit …. We are
getting ready for the burial of the alleluias on the first Sunday of lent.
Be alleluia prepared..
